General Information
Chapel Hil School has 3 classrooms designed to accommodate Prep. These classrooms are resourced with Teachers who are trained in Early Childhood Philosophy and 3 teacher aides who work for 20 hours per week with each classroom.

Outdoor play is an essential aspect of the Prep Program.
Outdoor play involves a number of gross motor activities to which the
children enjoy being part of.
In Prep, the focus of attention is upon individual
children and their progress in learning. Children's prior experiences are
taken into account when building on their current knowledge and
development.
The program at Chapel Hill
Prep aims to encourage and further develop in children: decision making and problem solving
skills
-
developmentally appropriate
intellectual, physical and social skills
-
creative self expression and
imagination
-
a zest for learning - discovering the
magic
-
a sense of worth, self confidence and
empathy and respect for others
-
the understanding, use and appreciation
of language
-
self-discipline, self-improvement and
independence
-
learning that is appropriate to the
child's development, range of experience and interests.
Prep provides a bridge by which the young
child can make a smooth transition from the home environment to school
and:
- Encourages parental interest and participation in the education of
their child
- Promotes the physical and mental health of young children through
the development of abilities, skills and attitudes that will aid the
educational process of the child.
Parents are welcome to participate in the program, and
the teacher will assist and advise parents in the various ways they can
become involved in the program. Children and parents are encouraged to
greet and farewell the staff each day. This sets a warm atmosphere,
enabling us to be aware of the child's feelings and attitudes at the
beginning of the day and provides parents and staff with an opportunity to
discuss matters of interest.
Open communication between parents and teachers helps
to provide the most effective learning environment for the children. If
you have any concerns about your child, or are experiencing difficulties,
please speak with your child's teacher. All matters are treated in the
strictest confidence. If you would like to discuss matters which may
require more than a few minutes of the teacher's time, please contact us
and we will make a time suitable to both teachers and parents. Please do
not discuss your child in their presence. This can place unwarranted
stress on children and serve to lower his/her self concept.

What will children learn at Prep:
The curriculum for Prep focuses on the factors that help children to be successful in school including:
- Social and emotional competency

Prep B. Last week we learnt about the letter ‘y’ and the letter ‘h’. We had lots of fun at the NED show and drew a picture afterwards of us doing our best. We are still enjoying playing with the capes at outside time and after seeing the Arts Council show ‘In Zoom’ we have been inspired to create our own clowning/magic show. We all did a great job on sports day and it was really wonderful to see everyone encouraging each other!

Prep B. We wrote letters to the children in Woorabinda and walked to the post box to post them. We have created our own post office in our classroom. We have started learning about time and the words before and after. We have been talking about the letter ‘j’ and we made it out of playdough.
P/1C. Last week we made lolly necklaces. We also learnt about equal numbers. In Maths groups we learnt left and right. (Charlotte Hansen)

Prep B has been learning about shape. We discovered that shapes are EVERYWHERE and everything is made of shapes. We also discussed diversity, other cultures and countries. We learnt about Aboriginal art and did some of our own dot paintings. It was very exciting when the firemen came and showed us the inside of their truck!
Prep B. Last week we learnt about Australian animals. We have been reading books, singing songs about them and this week we are going to use pastels to draw our favourite one. We have also been creating amazing things with clay and doing some beautiful handwriting. Everyone has been discussing Grade 1 and we are really looking forward to it.
