What we've been up to!
Year 2A. Last week in 2A we were learning about the sea and we were colouring and cutting out fish and sea horses. (Ella Tarasiuk)
Year 2B. We have started group work for reading and maths. Thankyou to all the Mums who are helping. During the week 2B have learnt that verbs are ‘Doing words’. Most people have enjoyed donating for the fire victims. (Jenna Bligh)
February 24th
Year 2B are learning about graphs and one was about the beach. We had a different teacher because Mrs Jacoby was at a meeting. All the year 2’s are doing the Nutbush and I hope that everyone enjoyed it. (Jenna Bligh)
Year 2C last week learnt about Jellyfish and did artwork related to them. We had a maths competition with the other grade 2 classes. (Emily Costin)
3rd March
Year 2A planted a lovely garden outside our classroom. Everybody has been working hard so the plants get enough water. We also learnt about coral and that coral is an animal that can change colour. (Ella Tarasiuk)
Year 2B made pancakes for pancake Tuesday. Thank you to the mums that helped. As part of learning about the ocean, we have started making octopus gardens. We would like to welcome Mrs MacDonald who will share 2B with Mrs Jacoby. (Jenna Bligh)
Year 2C last week learnt about fish and made a concertina fish in art. We have been learning how to follow a recipe. We made fairy bread. (Emily Costin)
10th Mrch
2A made fish out of paper last week. We painted them and decorated them with sequins. We also did an experiment to see what things would float and what things would sink in water. (Ella Tarasiuk)
2B have been bringing recipes in to class to make a recipe book. We also now have a grey folder with extra work for fast finishers. I hope everyone enjoyed the Bush Dance.

2C made a coral reef picture. In maths we have been learning our rainbow facts. We have been looking at recipes and verbs and nouns. We have also been researching sea creatures.

24th AMrch
2A added more plants to the garden outside our classroom. We celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day by wearing something green. We finished our week by watching ‘Nim’s Island‘, which helped us with our ocean studies. Ella Tarasiuk
2B have been making boats and we have tested some with marbles in them. 2B have also been recording our weights and measurements. Jenna Bligh
31st March
2A wrote a poem about whales. We did a painting of a river with squashed down trees around it. We went for a walk around the school and learnt lots of interesting facts about the plants at our school. Ella Tarasiuk
2B have been learning about homophones. It is where words sound the same but mean different things. We have also started making posters about sea creatures, like leafy sea dragons, dolphins, whales, dugongs and sharks. Jenna Bligh
2C did more paintings on our special curtain. We also learnt about clocks and how to read them. Emily Costin
April
2A had a very special week last week as we celebrated ANZAC Day and remembered all the people who died in the War. We also had a visitor from Indooroopilly Library, who told us about the Gold Star Reading Club. In Art we started to make snakes out of ties. Ella Tarasiuk
2B hopes everyone had a good Easter holiday. Last week the Year 2s had a PJ day and it was fun. It was good to see lots of people at the ANZAC Parade on Saturday. Jenna Bligh
2C painted paper in an ‘Eric Carle’ style last week, so that we can make a Rainforest Mural. In SOSE we learnt about the features of an environment. In Maths we are looking at 3D shapes. On Thursday we had fun coming to school in our pyjamas. We celebrated Reading in Bed Day. On Friday we commemorated all the fallen soldiers in an ANZAC Memorial. Emily Costin
12th May
Yr 2A. Last week we started to paint the outside of our classroom. We are going to put some coloured designs on the walls. We spent some time making lovely cards and bookmarks for Mother’s Day. (Ella Tarasiuk)
Yr 2C learnt about plants and animals that live in a desert climate. In Maths we learnt about counting patterns and how to use calculators. For our Mums we made beaded necklaces out of sculpty clay. We wrapped them in handmade marbled paper and made a card to go with them. These were our Mother’s Day presents. In spelling we learnt about ‘bossy e’. In music we had a test. (Emily Costin)
26th may
2A did maths sums. In P.E. we played ‘Stuck in the mud’ with a new teacher, Mrs C. In R.E. we learned about Jesus’ family. In Music we played a Singing Ball Game. Ella Tarasiuk
2B had Talks last week on a Rainforest animal or plant. One was on a leech, and one was on a snake. We have started to make mobiles out of sticks and leaves. We had a different teacher at P.E. I hope the rain dries out for this week! Jenna Bligh
2C was very busy. In Spelling we were learning about ‘ch’ words. In Maths we were learning about money. For Art, we made spiders, butterflies, vines and snakes. This went with what we have learnt about Rainforests. We also learnt about buttress roots, the layers in a rainforest and the types of weather in a rainforest. Em and Molly started making a vine and the rest of the class all got involved. Emily Costin
2nd June
2A did a quiz on Rainforests. In P.E. we did exercises around a circuit. Our class also played a ‘Number Guessing Game’ using hopscotch. Ella Tarasiuk
2B made 42 Lovebugs. We painted them and it was fun when we got them out of the spoon. We made some snakes, some were painted and some were drawn. 2B went to the Choral Fanfare, and all of the singers were great. Jenna Bligh
2C learnt some more about money. We have started making a 3D scene of a rainforest and its animals. In Spelling this week we worked on ‘sp’. ‘sn’ and ‘sk’ words. Emily Costin
16th June
2B painted rainforest pictures with 3D animals and insects on them. We have also finished making our Lovebugs out of plaster. These are painted bugs that we can use for decoration. We have been continuing our Classroom Presentations, so far we have done: favourite place and rainforest plant or animal, favourite sport or game, polar or desert animal, and grandparents. This week we are doping our favourite book. Jenna Bligh
2C were very busy last week. In Spelling, we were learning about words starting with ‘fl’, ‘pl’ and ‘cl’. We’ve also been learning about synonyms. They are words that have the same or similar meaning. Our Rainforest Scene is continuing to take shape. We’ve started solid work on the three levels of plants, the Forest floor, canopy and emergent. 23rd June
2B had their last presentation on our favourite book last week. We are learning about the desert and Polar Regions. Will’s Uncle came in and talked to us about numerals and we did some juggling. This week we are learning entries and exits. 2B are looking forward to going to the Botanical Gardens. (Jenna Bligh)
21st july
2B wrote a letter to a friend last week, telling them about our holiday. This term we are learning about Space and we have started making stars, moons and comets for our classroom. Jack Daly
1st Septeber
2A learned about some musical instruments last week and listened to grade 7s playing the viola, the cello and the violin. We also did some art – we made crocodiles and turtles out of paper. We also had great fun doing sports. (Calum Barter)
2B we did the word ‘seventeen’ and the number ‘17’ in our Maths book. (Jack Daly)
8th September
2C students were given a project to do at home. We had to choose a planet and find out all about it – its size, atmosphere and space probes which have been sent there. It was interesting to see everyone’s projects. We also made Father’s Day cards and bookmarks. (Jacob Betts)
15th September
2A went on an excursion to the Planetarium at Mount Coot-tha where we saw a show about the solar system. In Sports we played Tunnel ball and ran around the cones. We also had a spelling test. (Calum Barter)
2B went to the Planetarium last week. We watched a show about all the planets, the moon, the stars and the Milky Way. When we got back to school we wrote a recount. We have started learning about times tables in Maths. (Jack Daly)
27th October
2A last week had a spelling test and in Maths we learned about addition and subtraction. In Music we’ve been practising rhythm clapping. We had ‘Show and Tell’ every day and we are doing book reviews. My book review was on ‘The Wind in the Willows’. Other book reviews included ‘The Tiniest Mermaid’ and ‘Thunder the Stockhorse’. 2B painted Christmas decorations and we read ‘Mr Nick’s Knitting’ and started to make a quilt. We looked at numbers and did addition and subtraction. (Jack Daly)
3rd November
Yr 2A learned addition facts in Maths last week. We played a card game called Pairs and another game called Bob-Bob-Freeze. In Music we have been practising Kangaroo Skippy-Roo. We continued with our daily weather forecasts and Show and Tell, including a talk about elephants. We are still doing book reviews. (Calum Barter)
Yr 2B. Last week we started our weekly Book Reviews, Weather Report and Joke. We had a very interesting visit from the author – Rebecca Johnson. (Jack Daly)
Yr 2C went to the Arts building for the author visit. We made up a story called ‘ Aragon’s Trouble’. We put it on tape and typed it on the computer then we put the story together. (Jacob Betts)
10th November
2B went swimming at Jindalee Pool last week. We drew dragons, coloured them in and painted the background. We also did a Maths Test. Jack Daly
2C did some Science experiments during class. They were really interesting. After our Swimming lessons, we were allowed to swim in the big pool at Jindalee. Jacob Betts
