Year FourYear 4B. Last week in 4A/B, we learnt about fungi and mushrooms. In SOSE we talked about how year 4 is not senior or junior; it’s in the middle. We did a ‘me’ poem about ourselves. In Sport we practised our ball techniques. Our theme this term is about ourselves and others. (Annika Rapp) Year 4C. Last week in 4C we used our hands to make human calculators for our 4 times tables. We talked about 2D plane and 3D solid shapes. We are going to be doing literature groups and maths investigations. In literature groups we are going to be reading some fairy tales. In Art we used oil pastels and charcoal to do some smudging. (Jamie Delmonte) February 24th Year 4A/B have been doing money in Maths. We found a lot of mushrooms and when you touch the Earth star smoke comes out and we learnt that it contains their spores. In SOSE we looked at our multiple intelligences and decided what we were all good at. Then we drew what ‘smarts’ we each had. (Philip Groves) March, 3rdYear 4AB have been doing symmetry and patterns in Maths. In SOSE we revised and practised our listening skills. In Science we brought in some foods that we could grow mould on. In Music we are learning how to read notes on the staff. We have been working hard on learning how to prepare our talks, explanations and book reports to present to the class in our Afternoon sessions. (Philip Groves)Year 4C started learning about toys. We used the projector to watch some interesting information on the history of toys. In maths we had to complete 4 pages of Ausmaths Outcomes. In Art we made cool patterned shapes made out of paper and then we picked our favourite one and stuck them all on black sheets of paper. We have also been learning about symmetry and went outside to take mirror symmetrical pictures. (Jamie Delmonte) 10th mARCH4AB practiced our ‘time’. In SOSE we talked about changing from a “me” to an “us”. In Science we grew different types of mould on pumpkins, oranges, cheese, and breads. In PE we played a game of basketball. In Music we were using the 2009 sing book. (Philip Groves)4C started making toys from the natural environment. We also made CD clocks, got whiteboard markers, and practiced our time on them. We’re getting ready to learn about toys from the past. 4C have to interview much older people than us and ask what their favourite toy was when they were our age. (Jamie Delmonte) 24th March 4AB revised the maths we have done this term. In SOSE we learnt how to read and understand maps. In Science we looked at how fast cyclone Tracy hit Darwin and learnt that cyclones are very different to tornadoes and willy willys. In Sport we practised our passing skills. In Music we started to read the staff. Philip Groves 31st March4AB talked about how factors and multiples work in maths. In Science we talked about all of our energy sources. In SOSE we learnt about ‘The Switch’ and how we can Use it to Control Our Choices and Feelings. In Music we played a game called Grandma’s Keys. In Sport we split up into groups and played games with some students from the University of Queensland. Annika Rapp4C finished our plays on our Fractured Fairytales. We have nearly finished our toys that we made from recycled things like boxes, plastic bottles, straws and lots of other things too. We also finished our listening test. I hope everyone enjoyed Purple Day on Friday! Jamie Delmonte APRIL4C read books to the Year 2s and they read some books to us. Our topic for this term is “Inventing”. In Ausmaths we measured distances, such as the distance from the Office to the Tuckshop. For Homework we wrote about the meaning of ANZAC Day and also found other acronyms like ANZAC. We all enjoyed the ANZAC Ceremony on Friday. Jamie Delmonte12mayYr 4AB. Last week we did Chance and Data and Measurement in Maths. We have got groups in Art. Two are doing printing and batik. We started practising athletics in sport. We are learning continents and oceans of the world in SoSE. (Philip Groves & Annika Rapp) Yr 4C. We had Literature groups and in them we’ve been reading parts of books one by one. In Maths groups we are playing all different types of games in groups. On Thursday we all went to the Mothers Day stall and picked out presents for our Mums. We also made flower cards for Mothers Day and wrote poems for our Mums. (Jamie Delmonte) 26th May4AB learned about climate zones in SOSE, including the weather in each zone, what grows there, lives there and what countries are in each zone. In Science we looked at the main and secondary forms of energy from electrical appliances. Annika Rapp & Philip Groves. 4C got partners for our ‘Inventors’ poster and we started doing some research on inventions. In Art we finished our foot and hand print tracings and coloured them in with oil pastels. At P.E. we had some skipping activities, and we are going to start ‘Double Dutch’ next week. Jamie Delmonte 2nd June4AB had Mrs MacDonald come to our classroom for a Library lesson. We had to write about Inventions. We continued to learn about Energy in Science and Climatic Zones in SOSE. On Friday we made a long Beam Bridge in groups. We watched ‘Nim’s Island’ to help us with our Reading Comprehension. Connor Wiegmink and Georgie Wilson 4C got books from the library last week, and we got some information for our Invention Posters. We had Mr Baguley on Friday and went down to the Oval in the afternoon to play some games. On Friday we also had Maths Groups. On Wednesday we had P.E. where we did High Jump, and on Friday in P.E. we practiced ‘Double Dutch’ and skipping. Jamie Delmonte 16th June4AB started to learn about decimal fractions last week. We also made a Truss Bridge. In Music we sang out of the 2009 Sing Books. We also talked about tornados. Have a great week. Annika Rapp and Philip Groves 4C finished our invention posters last week, and we are getting ready to film the Aussie Invention Convention. In P.E. we did lots of running on the new tracks at the Oval, and we also did some Relay Races. In German we watched a movie about an old man and a young lady and a dog. On Thursday and Friday we had Mr Penny and will be having him for this Thursday and Friday as well. Jamie Delmonte 23rd June4AB did some fractions, patterns and algebra. In music we learnt how to change words into other words that rhyme. In sport we did our times for sports day. We also built a truss bridge. We hope everybody had a great Free Dress day and that we earned enough money to save the Birdwing butterfly. (Philip Groves & Annika Rapp)21st July4AB had a great first week. We have done a lot of races and things to do with Sports Day in P.E. 4A has been talking about going to Laidley Pioneer Village in about 10 days. On Tuesday we found out some bad news. We found out that Herr Reiser is leaving us. Georgia Wilson and Jordan Yee. 4th August4AB went to Laidley Pioneer Village for the whole day on Wednesday last week. We had a really interesting time. We had Chappy Day on Tuesday and raised a lot of money. Last Friday we started to plan our Pioneer Homes that we are building in class. 4AB enjoyed having Drama instead of German. Georgia Wilson1st September4AB enjoyed watching the Optiminds. We are coming along well in our Fete Art. On Tuesday we said goodbye to Giles. We are looking forward to the Fete. In P.E. we had fun playing a game similar to cricket. (Jordan Yee) 4C in German last week were learning how to say transport words. In maths, for our Timestables Group, we had a competition for First Place, and Second Place. If you won you would get an Icy Pole. We were working on our Project for the Fete and I hope everyone will enjoy it on Saturday. (Shannon Ryan) 8th September4AB last week finished their Pioneer Houses. They all look fantastic. We hope everyone had a great day at the Fete and everyone had a great Father’s Day. 4AB finished their Fete Art. It looked great and so did all the others. (Georgia Wilson, Jordan Yee) 4C went to an Instrumental Music Survey and watched Yr 7s play instruments. 4C have to finish their Pioneer Houses this week and most of the spare time we had last week was spent working on the,. In P.E. we played European Handball and it was really fun. I hope everybody had a fun time at the Fete. (Shannon Ryan) 15th September4AB did their Pioneer House Presentations last week. We hope everyone enjoyed viewing the houses on Thursday. We enjoyed playing ‘Cops and Robbers’ in PE, as well as some other games. 4AB did a test in Music with Mrs Cook. We will conclude our work about Colonials in SOSE and adaptations of plants and animals in Science this week. We hope you have a safe and enjoyable holiday. (Georgia Wilson and Jordan Yee) 4C finished our Pioneer Houses but we are still working on our Presentations. In German we made our own vehicle and wrote about it in German. We did a Maths test to get familiar with what we will be doing for our end of term tests. (Shannon Ryan) 27th Ocotbner4AB performed our patterns with ‘body percussion’ with Mrs Cook in Music. In Sport we played games of soccer. In LOTE 4AB are having fun learning about Christmas markets. We have also been making Christmas Cards to have professionally printed. This is a P+C initiative. (Georgia Wilson and Jordan Yee) 4C played Futsal in PE and the score was 4-2. We also did swimming and it was fun. We finished some tests and our portrait. We did Spelling and Grammar Rules. We are having fun learning about democracy in SoSE. In Science we are learning about erosion and weathering. In RE with Mrs Crossan we are making Christmas quilts. In Music we performed our patterns with some instruments. We are playing games with balls in PE. We made a K-truss bridge. (Georgia Wilson & Jordan Yee) Yr 4C is learning lots about the Human Body. In PE we are practising our shooting and playing lots of games. We have done lots of tests and have been playing lots of Maths games. Today we will be doing our times-tables race. (Shannon Ryan) 10th November 4AB continued our sea creature mobiles. 4AB practised basketball in PE. In Music we practised rhythms. With Frau Rothwell we are making posters for the Christmas Markets. In Swimming we are getting ready for the carnival. We finished learning about Erosion and weather in Science and we are continuing our Discovering Democracy unit in SOSE. We made the ‘Cantilever’ bridge. It is a type of truss bridge that is called a suspended span because it hangs between the two arms and does not rest on the pier. Georgia Wilson and Jordan Yee 4C finished doing their hard work on the body groups last week. We finished doing the 3s, 7s, and 9s timetable competition. On Melbourne Cup Day we got horses and the winner, 2 nd place, 3 rd place and last place got a lolly. Shannon Ryan . |
