See Year 6 at Robotics  

What we've been up to!

Year 6A. Last week 6A started doing group work. Each class spent an hour on each activity. The activities we did were Robotics, Art and Computer work. It was great! We also started reading groups with connector books. We all watched the movie ‘Hating Alison Ashley’ and wrote a description on some of the characters. (Sarah Stimpson)

Year 6B. On Monday 6B watched the movie ‘Hoot’ with the other year six classes. On Tuesday 6B went swimming. On Wednesday we had our first maths rotations with Mrs Murphy doing Art, Miss Harrap doing ACT and Mr Corradi doing Robotics. On Thursday 6B had our music lesson and did 2 tests. On Friday we had our Friday test and did a different test. I’m sure all the girls and boys in grades 7 and 6 are excited about touch football that will start on March 6 th. (Rachel Gregory)

 

February 24th

Year 6A had a great week. On Friday 6C and 6A enjoyed a great game of Batball which is in between Softball and Baseball except the ball is always in play- well done to both teams! In class we have been doing a lot of atlas work. We are all on our third crossword. (Sarah Stimpson)

Year 6B last week watched the rest of Hoot and started watching Holes. We had 3 revision tests last week out of 35. In our Music lesson we played our music individually. In Maths rotations we have to do a Wipeout powerpoint because Miss Harrap likes Wipeout. (Rachel Gregory)

March 3rd

Year 6A enjoyed a fun week. On Wednesday we all thought about a special place we had been to. We then wrote about it and drew a picture. On Friday we played a game on the oval with Mr Penny. We had to run from base to base before the other team got you out. (Sarah Stimpson)

10th MArch

24th March

6A finished our Aboriginal paintings. They looked fabulous! In Swimming we have been working on our breaststroke and safety jumping. Good Luck to inter-sport people for Netball, Touch and AFL! Sarah Stimpson

6C had a session on descriptive writing. We had to describe how our five senses reacted to a chocolate bar which we ate through the session. In German we are continuing on with schooling objects and are also learning about descriptive words. Grade 6 AFL players got to play their first game on Friday. Chapel Hill Blue won 73-13 and Chapel Hill Brown also won! Curtis Allan

31st March

6A had a great week. On Wednesday all the grade 6s were involved in three rotational groups. In Robotics we have been making all sorts of robots. In Art we are working on five projects. In I.C.T. we have been starting brochures. On Wednesday we also had a German Test. I hope we went well! In Maths we have started learning long division and have been looking at shapes and their nets. 6C has been learning about Australian History and Culture. In Art we have finished our Aboriginal Paintings and are starting on the Australian Bush using Karawatha as an example. Curtis Allan

APRIL

6A finished our experiment on two plants. We found out that the pond weed couldn’t survive without pond water and the bird seed couldn’t survive in the pond water. In Sport we have been practicing Shot-put with medicine balls. Sarah Stimpson

6B have been learning about ANZAC Day and doing lots of sheets. We had our Music Lesson and played individually. In Rotations we are doing stations in Art, Writing a leaflet in ICTs and in Robotics we are doing sheets and building a robot. I’m sure everyone enjoyed the holidays and the ANZAC Day Ceremony. 6C will be making information brochures on Australian Frogs over the coming weeks. With our partners, we are studying frogs that live in the Karawatha Forest in Brisbane. Last week we had a Lucky Dip to choose our Frog. We are also making brochures in ICTs of Brisbane Attractions. Curtis Allan

12th May

Yr 6A had a great week. In German we practised the German name for clothes. In Art we did our last rotation. We have started researching a frog from Karawatha. We all have to find out more about it. (Sarah Stimpson)

Yr 6B. Last week we had Mrs Staunton for Tuesday and Wednesday. We had Maths rotations on Wednesday. On Thursday we had a test in Music and on Friday we had a Spelling test. (Rachel Gregory)

Yr 6C finished our Mothers Day cards and necklaces last week. We’ve also finished our Oral Presentations on ‘Hating Alison Ashley’ characters. I hope everyone had a great Mothers Day. (Curtis Allan)

12th June

6A started learning about the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly. It is an endangered species, which we are trying to help. In Maths we are learning about Budgets. In Cooking we cooked Coconut Lemon Slices. Sarah Stimpson

6B had Miss McNaughton. We started our “150 th Anniversary of Queensland”. Rich Task. This week we have been finishing off our PowerPoints and Frog Brochures. In Music we did a Pop Quiz, where we had to guess the names of 29 songs we heard. We had a great week! Rachel Gregory

6C has been studying, as a class, and writing down information about the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly, for the past couple of weeks. In P.E. we are still practising for high jump Trials, which are on Tuesday. In I.T. we are creating flyers for topics of our choice. Curtis Allan

4th August

6B had a tough week last week, as we had our first Science assignment for this term. We had to choose a marine animal to study from Currimundi, as we are going on a camp there later on this term. We still haven’t received our replacement German teacher and we have been having a Drama teacher instead, which has been fun. In a few weeks all the boys in Year 6 will be playing ‘pitch ball’. 6C ’s week last week was full of highlights, including a full day of First Aid training, and what to do in emergency situations. Thank you to Miss Harrap for organising and making that day happen. We also got a new project, to research a rock pool creature of our choice and discover everything about them. We are still working on our Book Projects that are due this Friday. Alexa Birtasevic

1st September

6A started our third assignment. We also started our shoe creatures using plaster and clay. This week we find out what cabin we are in for the Camp. We painted glass jars for the Brisbane Festival. On Wednesday we watched the Optiminds groups. On Friday we had our first game of Interschool Sport. (Sophie Lougheed)

6B had our first week of Pitch Ball. All the teams did an extremely good job. My team won 15-5 as we versed Kenmore South. We also did our second ,last marine assignment on rock pool creatures. We also painted our glasses for the Aboriginal Ceremony for the show at the Brookfield Showgrounds. (Robert Kopel)

6C painted Dream Jars in Art. We also started a new Art Project, we had to pick a shoe and put rock pool creatures all over them and I am sure that they will look fantastic once they are done. We also got given a new Poetry Assignment. We have to write seven different kinds of poems and make a book. (Alexa Birtasevic)

8th September

6A finished off our Rockpool Creatures last week. We found out our Cabin room-mates for Camp next week/ We sprayed our fish with hairspray and got to take them home. On Friday we had Softball and Pitch ball. (Sophie Lougheed)

6B last week had Spring Fete, which I thought went really well. We also hosted a Maths Tournament in the Hall. We also did our last marine Information Report. (Robert Kopel)

6C received a new German Project from Frau Rothwell. We have to choose a family recipe and translate it into German. We also had our first persuasive language lesson and Religion was a bit different because our Religion teacher, Jess, is leaving and Clay and Alistair are replacing her. (Alexa Birtasevic)

27th October

6A started our Religion assignment last week. We had swimming on Tuesday and in Rotations we painted our clay lanterns in Art, and finished off our Camp PowerPoints in ICT. In German we decided what kind of stall and what we will sell at the Christmas Markets. We finished the week off with a party for Miss Harrap’s Birthday and a game of softball and pitchball. 6B had lots of Maths tests last week. We also had our second swimming lesson on Tuesday. In Art we made little pinch pots that hold candles for a religious festival. On Friday we had our weekly pitchball game and we all had a great game. (Robert Kopel)

6C have been learning about different religions and finding out what their beliefs are. We have also made Diwali candle holders which are used for a festival of lights. This is a celebration of Hinduism. Mrs Carter has been teaching us how to break up ads and sort them into different groups. (Alexa Birtasevic)

3rd November

Yr 6A. Last week we had rotations. In Art we did Zen Gardens. In ICTs we did our Religion assignments and our Science task. We did research on a particular religion: The Passover, Anne Frank, Chanukah, Sikhism etc. To finish the week off we had inter-school sports. (Sophie Lougheed)

Yr 6B. We started doing our first Religion report comparing Christianity to other religions. In Art we made our Zen gardens which turned out well. We have also been doing lots of Maths and Grammar tests. (Robert Kopel)

Yr 6C made very artistic Zen gardens in Technology. We are working on our Religion assignments. In SoSE we are learning about Anne Frank and Judaism and we have gone through everyone’s Persuasive Argument – everyone did really well with trying to persuade the audience. (Alexa Birtasevic)

10th November

6A finished off our Religion assignments. In Art we started to sculpt our ‘Funky Diva Angels’. Some of the class went to sing or play at Indooroopilly S/T in the Choir, Intermediate Band, Senior Band or Strings. We are making our propositions for our Christmas Markets in German. On Friday, Sport was cancelled because of the rain, so we watched ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’. Sophie Lougheed
