What we've been up to!
February
February 24th 2009
Year 7A. After learning about why man joined up for WW1, we created posters using cameras and the internet. In Science, we wrote a hypothesis and conclusions about an experiment where cold and hot water was added to dehydrated peas. In Maths we have been working with measurements and 3D shapes. We also began reading and writing rotations. (Oliver Mitchell)
Year 7B started the week with lots of fun. We had many tests but they all went by quickly. We enjoyed another swimming lesson but it was cold when it started to rain. On Wednesday we had fun making the Earth, showing the composition out of hard boiled egg. We than cracked it and were able to eat it. On Thursday we wrote stories about a place that was imaginary or real and then we drew a picture of our place. (Matthew Gregory) Year 7C. last week started a new rotation in reading groups. In Maths we continued learning math strategies including left to right and breaking up numbers. We also continued our novel Bridge to Terabithia, in Science we are learning about lights and circuits and how they work. (Michael Williams).
March 3rd
Year 7A on Monday, finished off our posters for World War 1 (WW1). In German we had a small test on food. On Tuesday we had Maths, Literacy, Religious Education and Swimming. On Wednesday we had German. We also had Science and ate three different types of pancakes and had them with whipped cream and jam. On Thursday we had to describe a Painting by Edgar Degas from France . On Friday we had our Spelling test in the morning and Dodge Ball from 2-3 in the afternoon. (Oliver Mitchell).
Year 7B have had another great week. We wrote descriptions about the Victorian fires, and we watched a video of how mountains are made. We did some quick tests on Wednesday but they were easy. We have been learning our Seven times tablesand must complete a sheet in a limited amount of time. (Matthew Gregory)
Year 7C last week continued reading our novel ‘Bridge to Terabithia’. In Maths we are learning about radii and diameters. In Science we are all in the process of designing our lights which we will then create out of the materials that we will gather from home. (Michael Williams)
10th MArch
7B has some fun. We started our assessment tasks which were good. We also watched a video on tectonic plates. We had another fun art session, and this is our third week meaning we only have one week to finish our activity. We had fun on our first interschool sports game. Congratulations to those who won! 7C continued our novel ‘Bridge to Terabithia’. In Maths we are using a compass to construct 2D shapes. In Science we started our models for our light design, which are going well. For Art, our relief teacher has come up with a few designs for our class. Inreading groups we are learning to scan the text and correct punctuation. (Michael Williams)
24th March
7A continued to work on different types of maths like ratio and area for the Year 7 tests. In Art we started our new activity for the next four weeks and in Swimming we worked on our butterfly. Congratulations to everyone who won their game on Friday for inter-school sport. Oliver Mitchell
7B has been practising narratives for the grade 7 test that is coming up. We have also been doing a couple of maths tests to practise. We have all started a new rotation for Art which is really fun. In Swimming 7B learnt some new dives to help us with our lifesaving. We had a lot of fun last week, especially with Interschool Sport. Evie Georgiou
7C continued our lights and getting them to work. In Maths and Reading we have been working hard to prepare for the NAPLAN testing, as well as continuing our novel, ‘Bridge to Terabithia’. Michael Williams
31st March
7A looked at Pascal’s triangles and triangular numbers in Maths. In SOSE we were given an assignment to create a poster on an ANZAC. Also, Congratulations to everyone who won their game for Interschool Sport on Friday. Oliver Mitchell
7B has been working on dialogues and punctuation. In Maths, we are practising the area of triangles. Our assessment tasks are going well, but we are still a bit behind schedule. We all played well in Interschool Sport on Friday and the week was enjoyable for all of us. Evie Georgiou
APRIL
7A looked at Greenwich Mean Time in Maths. In Science we looked at the cycle of rocks. We also wrote a narrative and saw our German videos that we had made before the end of last term. We also had our first Government Test on Friday. Oliver Mitchell
12th May
Yr 7A. Last week we looked at how to make a Geometric cat or dog. We also looked at rocks and decided if the rocks were Igneous, Sedimentary or Metamorphic. We also had a Government test on Friday. (Oliver Mitchell)
Yr 7B. Last week we continued to do our Science ‘Fair Test’ where we roll a car down a ramp on different layers. On Wednesday we did lots of SoSE – we had to do a test on Democracy. On Friday we had an angles test, but after that we made Mothers Day cards. (Matthew Gregory
Yr 7C. In Science we have been conducting ‘Fair Tests’ by testing how far cars travel down different surfaces, such as towels, cardboard and wooden blocks. In Lote we have been continuing our trip around the world and learnt different types of travelling vehicles in German. In SoSE we have been learning about Government and have been watching many videos preparing for our Year 7 camp coming up in a few weeks time. This week we are starting our NAPLAN test which 7C is not looking forward to. We wish everyone the best of luck. (Megan Williams)
26th MAy
7A worked on scrap-booking all week. We also had our last week of Art. On Friday we didn’t have Sport as it was cancelled, so we started to watch a movie on Pompeii. Oliver Mitchell
2nd June
7A, 7B and 7C had our first session on our Sydney Canberra Camp. On Tuesday 7A had Sport and we worked on our High Jump. On Wednesday we looked at how long we would have to sleep, eat and how much time at each venue for our camp. We also had a Federal Government Test. Oliver Mitchell
7B did lots of work on the Government and had a small test on it in SOSE. We also read our Orals, where we told our class about our reading this year. We did lots of Maths Tests as well, but they were easy. In Science we had to drop food colouring into different brands of paper towels. Matthew Gregory
16th June
7A focused on lots of study about the Government last week. First we started on the Process of Law-Making, and then we had to research a Prime Minister of Australia. In Sport we worked on our sprinting. On Thursday we had our second week of Art, and on Friday we had our third week of our Sydney-Canberra Camp sessions. Oliver Mitchell
23rd June
6A had a great week. On Thursday we wrote a reflection on our first semester. In art we used oil pastels to make a picture. In robotics we are programming our robots. It was great to see so many people in free dress on Friday. We raised lots of money. (Sarah Stimpson)
6B have been doing our Rich Tasks. Because Herr Reiser was sick this week we went down to the oval with a visiting teacher and played ‘Capture the Flag’. In music we played lots of songs. On Friday for the last hour of school we played ‘Capture the Flag’ then we got our report cards. I have enjoyed being Class Captain. (Rachel Gregory)
1st September
7A worked on the Kwana Clean Coal Storage Plan and suggested the pros and cons for the idea. Also on Monday we worked on headings and dot points and in Maths we worked on timelines. On Wednesday we watched the Optiminds groups from 2-3 and then on Friday we had Interschool Sports. (Oliver Mitchell)
7C have been taking biography notes on picture book authors. We have also been learning about the different kind of visual texts, such as comic strips and comic books, picture books and cartoons. In LOTE we split into groups and started making a movie of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ in German (‘Rotkappchen’). On Friday our production of our puppets was due and it was our first week of Interschool Sport. We continued our puppet construction and reflection and we are soon ready to perform our presentations to the younger grades. We also worked on our painting for the Fete Auction and are now deciding what to name it. We also continued with our reading groups and grammar. (Michael Williams and Megan Williams)
8th September
7A is looking at Clean Coal technologies and alternative energies in Science. In groups we made a Puff Mobile, which included designing and building a mobile with 8 straws, pins and apiece of paper. We then blew it for 5 seconds to see how far it would go. Then we modified the design to see if we could improve the result. This week we will write up the experiment using Cows (what did we change), Moo (what did we measure), Softly (what did we keep the same). In SOSE we are writing up our Information Report about an Environmental Issue in the World. In Maths we are looking at Circle graphs and discussing in small groups how to solve mathematical problems. 7B last week started to write how Adelie Penguins adapt to the cold Antarctic conditions. Also, we started out persuasive tests. In Maths we have been learning about Chance. In Reading we have just got a new book called ‘Killer Whale’. In English we have been doing more of our persuasive text and continued reading our contract. In SOSE we have been learning about the Antarctic treaty. Congratulations to everyone who won their Sports game on Friday. (Matthew Gregory)
7C finished our Biography notes as well as our Puppet script for our Healthy Message. We continued with reading groups and are preparing to do our German play of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. This week we are hoping to finish the filming of our puppet plays. (Michael Williams)
27th October
7A had Sport last Tuesday, and we also dissected a flower. On Wednesday we finished watching everyone’s PowerPoints. On Thursday, instead of Art, we worked on our Christmas Cards for the Competition. On Friday we had Sport and we also worked on long division. (Oliver Mitchell)
10th November
7C have been looking at multiplying and dividing by 10, 100, 10000 in Maths. We also looked at locating thousandths on a number line. We also did a Science test and a Maths test which went well. We have been doing our picture books, which are due in on Wednesday, the same with our orals. Some of us have started work on their masks. Michael Williams
