I liked this experience because I got to spend time with my best friend making clay and having a really good time. I learnt how to make a coil pot, which is very handy, and how to treat the clay. I discovered how to use the right pressure when you are smoothing and how to use nature as my inspiration. Having the little walk to the forest area I saw lots of different trees and heard lots of different sounds that I just took in had that in mind when I was making the clay piece.

Clay is from nature and lots of things you make can be about nature, like a pot in the shape of a flower.

I discovered that when I am doing art I like to work standing up. I think it makes me feel happier and more energetic than just sitting down. Different emotions can control your art really. I enjoyed making the swirly ball because I liked how you had to shift it around to make it and then when you picked it up you have this relief that it didn’t break when you were shifting it. Art is really my feelings put into a picture or a clay piece. If we didn’t have art we wouldn’t have anything to help us express our feelings. I think this is very important because it allows people to let go of everything and their mind goes away and they feel free.

I have really enjoyed the workshop because it’s not every day that you spend the whole time working with clay and doing art. I liked learning the new techniques with clay such as the smoothing with your fingers. My favourite piece would be the ball that is hollow and has swirls on it. I think it looks really cool and professionally made. It wasn’t easy to make because there was an ice cream tub with a mould and you had to make rolls with the clay and then roll it out into a spiral. It needed delicate finger work. I was looking forward to its complete form and I felt like a professional when I was making it. I have discovered that I can use really precise and delicate movements with my fingers when I am working with clay. Art is letting loose your creative skills and showing them by putting them into a piece. ‘Letting loose’ means to free the skills from inside you.
