ORDER OF AUSTRALIA AWARD PRIMARY SCHOOL
Our Year 2 classes have been using a story thread approach to the learning of various units of work.
“Muddles of Magic” is a story thread unit that allows children to step into a story. Through imagination and pretending, children develop a better understanding of what it means to live and work as a responsible and caring human being in Sustainable Values Community. This unit was developed at the beginning of the year. We submitted this unit into the Education Queensland’s Showcase awards and recently it was picked up by the Order of Australia Association. Yesterday the school received an award from The Order of Australia Association (Queensland Branch) – Primary Schools. The award acknowledges that primary students are undertaking exciting and interesting activities that promote a commitment to, and pride in, Australian Citizenship and is a school based project. Only 12 awards were presented and Chapel Hill School and its “Muddles of Magic” received one in the inaugural year of this presentation.
Yesterday the school represented by Miss Erin Treacy and three of her students from Year 2 – Antonia Burwell-Rodriguez, Martin Skilleter and Alaric Wrafter visited Parliament House and received the award from the Governor of Queensland, Mrs Quentin Bryce. Then the children had afternoon tea with the Governor.
The award is being displayed proudly in the Foyer of the Office area.
