Optiminds - State Final Last weekend the “Groovy Rainbow Llamas” Opti-minds team competed in the State Finals at the University of Queensland. On Saturday, at the 20/20 Opti-Vision Youth Forum the team presented their idea for the future which they had been preparing over the last six weeks. They designed a public transport system called ‘The Transpiral” which would allow the city centre to become traffic-free. On Sunday the students spent a very challenging three hours problem-solving, constructing models, script-writing and rehearsing before presenting their solution to the judges, their parents and friends. The parents and teachers who were lucky enough to watch the team perform were overwhelmed by the students’ knowledge, presence, performance ability and team work. They engaged the audience totally and made us all extremely proud to be members of the Chapel Hill School community. THEY WERE TOTALLY AWESOME and were awarded HONOURS at the Presentation ceremony that evening. Congratulations to Tahlia Stickley, Becky Degnan, Ned McGrath, Dylan Kidd, James Brotton, Ned Cavanough and Katherine Viney on your amazing effort. OPTI-MINDS On Saturday three teams of students from our school competed in the Opti-minds Challenge at Indooroopilly State High. Opti-minds is a creative problem solving event for teams and they are required to solve demanding, open-ended challenges from one of the following categories: Language Literature, Science Engineering, Social Sciences. They competed against about 30 other teams in each of their categories from both state and private schooling systems and I am sure it comes as no surprise to the Chapel Hill State School community that our teams represented themselves and our school at an extremely high standard. They were rewarded for all their hard work and long hours spent solving the challenges with Team 1 receiving ‘The Spirit of Opti-minds’ Award, Team 2 receiving an Honours Award and Team 3 was awarded 1 st Place. This is a very difficult competition and the students should be congratulated for their resilient and hard-working approach. The parents and teachers who were lucky enough to watch the teams perform on Saturday were overwhelmed by the students’ knowledge, presence, performance ability and team work. They engaged the audience totally and made us all extremely proud to be members of our school community. Congratulations to all students on your amazing achievements.
